Description
Bile Aesculin Azide Agar is a selective confirmation medium for detecting and enumerating enterococci in water and other materials.
The PDF describes transfer of membranes containing typical colonies from Slanetz–Bartley Agar to the prepared medium. Enterococci hydrolyse aesculin, producing a brown-to-black reaction in the surrounding medium.
The medium is stated to comply with ISO 7899-2:2000 for rapid confirmation. The prescribed membrane-filtration workflow and incubation conditions are followed before counting characteristic colonies.
