Pseudomonas testing
Pseudomonas is the organism that spoils chilled product and colonises water systems — psychrotrophic, biofilm-forming, and remarkably tolerant of the conditions meant to control it.
Why Pseudomonas testing is demanding
Pseudomonas grows at refrigeration temperature, which makes it the dominant spoilage organism in chilled protein and dairy. It produces proteases and lipases that degrade product well before any safety threshold is reached, so the practical consequence is off-flavour, slime and rejection rather than illness.
In water systems and pharmaceutical manufacturing it matters for a different reason: P. aeruginosa is an objectionable organism, and its biofilm-forming ability means it establishes itself in pipework, taps and storage vessels where routine sanitisation does not reach it.
That biofilm behaviour is what makes it persistent. Planktonic cells in a water sample may test negative while an established biofilm continues to shed intermittently, which is why Pseudomonas monitoring emphasises repeated sampling over a single clean result.

Ready-poured selective formats for the routine volume that chilled-product and water monitoring programmes generate.

Species-level PCR confirmation where P. aeruginosa specifically is the objectionable organism named in a pharmaceutical or water specification.
