Description
Blood Agar Base is an enriched basal medium for cultivating fastidious bacteria and demonstrating haemolytic reactions.
Peptones and extracts support demanding organisms. Addition of blood supplies further growth factors and allows alpha, beta and gamma haemolysis patterns to be observed.
The sterile cooled base is supplemented with blood, poured into plates and inoculated with the specimen or culture. Colonies and haemolytic reactions are interpreted after incubation.
