Description
Desoxycholate Agar is a weakly selective differential medium for isolating Enterobacteriaceae and other enteric Gram-negative bacteria.
Sodium desoxycholate, citrate and neutral red suppress Gram-positive organisms and differentiate lactose fermenters. Lactose-positive bacteria form red to pink colonies, while Salmonella and Shigella typically remain colourless.
Samples are inoculated by pour plating, streaking or spreading and incubated at 35 ± 2°C for 18–24 hours. Presumptive colonies require confirmation.
