Description
Purple Lactose Agar is a differential medium for isolating, enumerating and differentiating urinary pathogens.
Lactose fermentation changes bromocresol purple to yellow, while the electrolyte-deficient formulation suppresses Proteus swarming and improves colony differentiation.
Fresh urine is inoculated with a calibrated loop and incubated at 35 ± 2°C for approximately 18–24 hours. Colony counts, colour and morphology are used for presumptive identification.
