Description
Todd Hewitt Broth is an enriched liquid medium for cultivating beta-haemolytic streptococci and other fastidious organisms.
Tryptone and heart extract supply nutrients, glucose supports growth and haemolysin production, and carbonate and phosphate buffers limit acid-related haemolysin inactivation.
Throat-swab material or a pure streptococcal culture is inoculated and incubated at 35 ± 2°C for two to five hours, with extension to 24 hours before subculture where required.
