Description

Tryptic Soy Agar is a non-selective general-purpose medium for cultivating and enumerating microorganisms without special nutritional requirements.

Casein and soy peptones supply amino acids, vitamins and minerals, sodium chloride maintains osmotic balance and agar creates the solid growth surface. Blood may be added for fastidious organisms and haemolysis studies.

Samples are inoculated by pour plating, spread plating, streaking or membrane filtration. A general aerobic count may be incubated at approximately 30°C for 72 hours, while standard-medium use follows EN ISO 11133.
