Description
Violet Red Bile Glucose Agar is a selective medium for detecting and enumerating bile-tolerant Gram-negative bacteria and Enterobacteriaceae.
Bile salts and crystal violet inhibit Gram-positive cocci, while glucose fermentation changes neutral red and produces pink-to-red colonies, often with a precipitation halo.
Samples are inoculated by pour or spread plating and incubated according to the selected pharmacopoeial or ISO 21528 method. Characteristic colonies are counted and confirmed by oxidase and glucose-fermentation reactions.
