Description
Tryptone Sulfite Neomycin Agar is a selective medium for isolating sulfite-reducing clostridia, especially Clostridium perfringens, from food and other materials.
Neomycin and polymyxin inhibit much of the accompanying flora, while sulfite reduction reacts with ferric citrate and produces black colonies.
Samples are inoculated into deep tubes or onto plates and incubated anaerobically at 46 ± 1°C for 18–24 hours. Black colonies are examined promptly and selected for confirmation.
