LB Medium (Luria Bertani) is a nutrient-rich liquid medium for cultivating and maintaining recombinant Escherichia coli and other laboratory bacteria.
Tryptone supplies peptides and amino acids, yeast extract supplies vitamins and growth factors, and sodium chloride supports osmotic balance.
The broth is prepared, sterilised and inoculated with the selected culture. Incubation conditions and any added selective antibiotic depend on the molecular-biology workflow.
