Description
Sabouraud Dextrose Agar is a non-selective medium for cultivating, maintaining and enumerating yeasts and moulds from clinical, environmental and other non-clinical materials.
Casein and animal-tissue digests supply nutrients, while the high dextrose concentration and acidic pH favour fungal organisms over many bacteria.
Samples are inoculated onto the agar and incubated at the temperature appropriate to the target fungus. Colonies are examined by growth, macroscopic appearance and microscopic morphology.
