Description
Sabouraud Dextrose Broth is a liquid medium for isolating and cultivating yeasts and moulds from clinical and non-clinical specimens.
Peptone digests supply amino acids and growth factors, while dextrose provides energy and the acidic pH favours fungal growth. Chloramphenicol may be added when stronger bacterial suppression is required.
Clinical specimens may be incubated aerobically at approximately 25°C for two to seven days. The broth is also used in harmonised pharmacopoeial testing of non-sterile products before subculture.
