Description
Columbia CNA Agar Base is a selective enriched medium base for isolating Gram-positive cocci.
Colistin and nalidixic acid suppress many Gram-negative organisms. After supplementation with sheep blood, the medium supports staphylococci, streptococci and pneumococci and permits evaluation of haemolytic reactions.
Clinical specimens are inoculated and incubated at 36 ± 1°C for approximately 18–24 hours in an atmosphere containing about 10% carbon dioxide. Characteristic colonies are selected for confirmation.
