Description
Corn Meal Agar is a fungal cultivation medium used to demonstrate chlamydospore production, particularly during presumptive identification of Candida albicans.
Corn-meal infusion supplies nutrients while the low-nutrient formulation encourages characteristic morphology. Polysorbate 80 may be added to enhance chlamydospore development.
A yeast colony is inoculated as a deep cut beneath a coverslip and incubated aerobically at 25 ± 2°C for two to seven days. Growth, pigmentation and chlamydospore formation are examined microscopically.
