Description
MacConkey Agar without Bile Salt is a selective differential medium for isolating enteric bacteria and enterococci.
Crystal violet suppresses much of the Gram-positive flora. Lactose fermentation produces pink-to-red colonies, non-lactose fermenters remain colourless and enterococci may appear as small red colonies.
Specimens or cultures are streaked for isolation and incubated at 35 ± 2°C for approximately 18–24 hours before characteristic colonies are selected for further identification.
