R2A Agar is a low-nutrient enumeration medium for heterotrophic microorganisms in treated potable water.
The diluted nutrient system supports slow-growing organisms, starch absorbs toxic metabolic products and sodium pyruvate improves recovery of stressed cells.
Water samples are inoculated by the applicable plating or membrane-filtration procedure and incubated for the extended period stated by the European Pharmacopoeia or APHA method before colonies are counted.
