Description
BIGGY (Nickerson) Agar is a selective differential medium for detecting and isolating Candida species from clinical specimens.
Candida reduces the bismuth-sulfite system and produces brown-to-black pigmented colonies and, for some species, dark precipitate in the surrounding agar.
Clinical material is streaked onto the prepared plates and incubated according to the IFU. Colony morphology and pigmentation support presumptive differentiation and require additional confirmation.
