Description
SPS Agar is a selective differential medium for isolating and enumerating Clostridium perfringens.
Polymyxin B and sulfadiazine inhibit many competing bacteria, thioglycollate creates reducing conditions and sulfite reduction produces black colonies through reaction with ferric citrate.
Samples are inoculated by pour plating, direct streaking or stab inoculation and incubated anaerobically at approximately 37°C for 24–48 hours before black colonies are counted and confirmed.
