Description
Modified MacConkey Broth is a selective differential broth for detecting coliform bacteria and Escherichia coli in food and water.
The modified salt concentration and bile components restrict competing organisms, while lactose fermentation produces acid and gas. A positive acid reaction changes the indicator colour and gas is trapped in a Durham tube.
Cultures are incubated under the conditions in the PDF, including elevated-temperature confirmation for Escherichia coli where required.
