Description
Bile Aesculin Broth is a selective liquid medium for isolating and differentiating enterococci and group-D streptococci.
Ox bile and sodium azide suppress competing flora. Aesculin hydrolysis produces aesculetin, which reacts with ferric citrate and blackens the medium.
The sample is inoculated into the broth and incubated at 35 ± 2°C for 18–48 hours. Blackening indicates a positive aesculin reaction.
