Description
Koser Citrate Medium is a differential liquid medium for presumptive identification of Enterobacteriaceae based on citrate utilisation.
Sodium citrate is the sole carbon source. Citrate-positive organisms such as Enterobacter and Klebsiella grow and produce turbidity, whereas Escherichia coli is inhibited and does not produce visible growth.
A fresh pure culture is inoculated into the broth and incubated at 35 ± 2°C for 18–24 hours. The PDF identifies the test as part of the IMViC group used in the FDA Bacteriological Analytical Manual workflow.
