Description
Malonate Broth is a differential biochemical medium for determining whether an organism can utilise malonate as its sole carbon source.
Malonate-positive organisms produce alkaline products and change the bromothymol-blue indicator from green to blue. Negative cultures remain green and show no corresponding alkaline reaction.
A light inoculum from a pure culture is added to the broth and incubated before the colour reaction is interpreted with other biochemical tests.
