Description
Phenol Red Broth Base is a basal liquid medium for differentiating microorganisms by carbohydrate-fermentation reactions.
A selected fermentable carbohydrate is added to the nutrient base. Acid production changes phenol red from red to yellow, and gas may be collected in a Durham tube.
A pure isolate and a carbohydrate-free growth control are inoculated and incubated at 35 ± 2°C for approximately 18–48 hours before growth, acid and gas reactions are interpreted.
