Description
SIM Medium is a semisolid biochemical medium for differentiating Enterobacteriaceae by sulfide production, indole formation and motility.
Thiosulfate and ferric ammonium sulfate demonstrate hydrogen-sulfide production as blackening, tryptophan supports the indole reaction and the low agar concentration reveals bacterial motility.
A pure culture is stab-inoculated and incubated at 35 ± 2°C before blackening, diffuse growth and the Kovac's-reagent indole reaction are interpreted.
