Description
Stuart Transport Medium is a semisolid non-nutritive medium for transporting clinical specimens while preserving fastidious organisms.
Thioglycollate creates a reduced environment and the low agar concentration limits diffusion. The medium maintains viability without encouraging substantial multiplication.
A swab is inserted into the transport medium and delivered to the laboratory promptly. The PDF identifies preservation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Trichomonas vaginalis for up to 24 hours and several Haemophilus, Streptococcus and Corynebacterium species for longer periods.
