Description
Violet Red Bile Agar MUG is a selective and fluorogenic medium for detecting coliform bacteria and Escherichia coli.
Bile salts and crystal violet inhibit Gram-positive organisms. Lactose fermentation produces pink-to-red colonies, while beta-glucuronidase-positive Escherichia coli produces blue fluorescent halos from MUG under long-wave ultraviolet light.
Prepared plates are inoculated and incubated at 35 ± 2°C for approximately 22–26 hours before colony colour and fluorescence are assessed.
