Description
Blood Agar Base No. 2 is an enriched basal medium for cultivating fastidious microorganisms and examining haemolytic reactions.
After supplementation with sheep or horse blood, the medium supports growth of organisms such as streptococci and staphylococci and allows their haemolytic activity to be observed. When heated blood is used, the prepared medium can be used as chocolate agar for organisms including Haemophilus and Neisseria.
The technical sheet links the medium to ISO 10560:1993. Prepared plates are inoculated with the specimen or culture and incubated under conditions appropriate for the organism being examined.
