Description
Tryptose Agar is an enriched general-purpose medium for isolating and cultivating fastidious microorganisms.
Tryptose supplies nutrients, dextrose provides fermentable energy and sodium chloride maintains osmotic balance. Blood may be added to support demanding organisms and haemolysis observation.
Samples are inoculated by streaking or spreading and incubated at 35 ± 2°C for 24 hours or longer, commonly in an atmosphere enriched with 5–10% carbon dioxide.
