Description
Dextrose Tryptone Agar is a differential medium for detecting flat-sour spoilage organisms in canned foods and related products.
Dextrose fermentation produces acid that changes the bromocresol-purple indicator from purple to yellow. The PDF identifies applications for mesophilic and thermophilic organisms, including Geobacillus stearothermophilus and Bacillus coagulans.
Mesophilic cultures are incubated at approximately 32°C for up to 72 hours, while thermophilic cultures are incubated at approximately 55°C for up to 48 hours. Acid-producing colonies are recognised by the yellow reaction.
