Description
Sabouraud CAF Agar is a selective medium for cultivating and enumerating pathogenic and non-pathogenic yeasts and moulds from clinical and non-clinical specimens.
Casein and animal-tissue digests supply nutrients, dextrose and acidic pH favour fungal growth, and chloramphenicol suppresses accompanying bacterial flora.
Samples are inoculated onto the prepared medium and incubated at 20–25°C or 30–35°C. Cultures are generally examined after 48–72 hours for yeasts, with longer incubation used where required.
