Description
TBX Agar is a selective chromogenic medium for detecting and enumerating beta-glucuronidase-positive Escherichia coli in food.
Bile salts inhibit many Gram-positive bacteria and the X-glucuronide substrate is cleaved by Escherichia coli beta-glucuronidase, producing blue to blue-green colonies.
Samples may be processed by membrane, pour-plate or surface-plating techniques. Plates are incubated according to the relevant part of ISO 16649, commonly with a final incubation near 44°C.
