Description
Bismuth Sulphite Agar is a highly selective medium for isolating Salmonella species, particularly Salmonella Typhi.
Bismuth sulfite and brilliant green inhibit competing organisms, while ferrous sulfate reveals hydrogen-sulfide production through dark or black colony reactions.
Enrichment cultures or samples are streaked onto freshly prepared plates, incubated and examined for characteristic colonies before confirmation.
