Description
Pfizer Selective Enterococcus Agar is a membrane-filtration medium for enumerating faecal streptococci and enterococci.
Bile and sodium azide suppress competing organisms. Enterococci hydrolyse aesculin, and the resulting esculetin reacts with ferric citrate to form brown-black colonies.
A filtered sample membrane is transferred to the agar and incubated at 36 ± 1°C for 18–48 hours. Brown-black colonies are counted and reported per 100 mL.
