Description
E.C. Broth MUG is a selective broth for detecting faecal coliforms and Escherichia coli.
Bile salts inhibit much of the Gram-positive flora. Escherichia coli glucuronidase hydrolyses MUG to produce blue fluorescence under long-wave ultraviolet light, while Durham tubes demonstrate gas production.
The PDF describes incubation at 35 ± 2°C and 44.5°C, followed by assessment of growth, gas and fluorescence.
