Description
Violet Red Bile Agar with Lactose and Glucose is a selective differential medium for bile-tolerant Gram-negative bacteria and Enterobacteriaceae.
Bile salts and crystal violet inhibit Gram-positive cocci. Lactose and glucose fermentation changes neutral red and produces pink-to-red colonies, often with a precipitation halo.
Samples are enriched where required, then inoculated by pour or spread plating and incubated at 35 ± 2°C for approximately 18–24 hours before characteristic colonies are counted.
