Description
MacConkey Broth EP-USP is a selective enrichment medium for detecting bile-tolerant Gram-negative lactose fermenters, including Escherichia coli.
Bile salts inhibit much of the Gram-positive flora, while lactose fermentation produces acid and gas in the broth.
The test sample is enriched at approximately 42–44°C and positive cultures are subcultured to MacConkey Agar for confirmation under the harmonized pharmacopoeial procedure.
