Description
Mannitol Salt Broth is a selective differential medium for presumptive detection of staphylococci.
A high sodium-chloride concentration restricts many non-staphylococcal organisms, while mannitol fermentation produces acid and changes the phenol-red indicator toward yellow.
The broth is inoculated and incubated according to the PDF. Growth with a yellow acid reaction supports presumptive identification and requires confirmation by additional tests.
