Description
Water Detect Coliforms is a chromogenic and fluorogenic medium for simultaneous detection of total coliforms and Escherichia coli in water.
Sodium lauryl sulfate inhibits non-coliform organisms, X-GAL produces a blue-green coliform reaction, MUG produces fluorescence for Escherichia coli and tryptophan permits indole confirmation.
The powder is dissolved directly in the water sample and incubated at 37°C for 18–24 hours or at 20–25°C for up to 48 hours. Blue-green colour indicates coliforms, while fluorescence and a positive indole reaction support Escherichia coli detection.
