Description
Lauryl Sulphate Agar is a selective differential membrane-filtration medium for isolating and enumerating Escherichia coli and other coliform bacteria in water.
Sodium lauryl sulfate restricts competing organisms. Lactose fermentation changes the phenol-red indicator, allowing characteristic target colonies and surrounding reactions to be recognised.
A measured water volume is filtered through a membrane, which is placed on the prepared agar and incubated under the conditions described in the PDF before presumptive colonies are counted and confirmed.
