Description
TCBS Agar is a selective differential medium for isolating enteropathogenic Vibrio species from clinical and non-clinical samples.
Citrate, thiosulfate, bile and alkaline pH suppress many competing organisms, while sucrose fermentation and the indicator system differentiate Vibrio colony types. Sodium chloride supports Vibrio growth.
Samples may be streaked after two-stage enrichment in alkaline saline peptone water or inoculated directly. Plates are incubated aerobically at 37 ± 1°C for 18–24 hours.
