Description
Buffered Peptone Water is a non-selective pre-enrichment and dilution medium used in food microbiology.
Peptone supports recovery of injured organisms, sodium chloride maintains osmotic balance and phosphates buffer the broth during enrichment.
Samples are suspended or diluted in the medium. For Salmonella pre-enrichment, a typical 1:10 or 1:9 sample-to-broth ratio is incubated before transfer to selective enrichment media.
