Description

Egg Yolk Tellurite Emulsion is a selective differential supplement used with Baird Parker Agar for detecting coagulase-positive staphylococci.

Egg-yolk lecithinase activity creates clear zones, while potassium tellurite is reduced to blacken colonies of coagulase-positive staphylococci.

Fifty millilitres are added aseptically to one litre of sterile cooled Baird Parker Agar Base. The completed medium is used for Staphylococcus aureus isolation and enumeration.
