Description
Crystal Violet Solution is the primary staining reagent used in the Gram-staining procedure for differentiating bacteria.
A prepared smear is covered with crystal violet for the time stated in the PDF before the subsequent Gram-stain reagents are applied. The dye initially stains bacterial cells, enabling the later decolourisation and counterstaining steps to distinguish Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.
The solution is intended for professional in-vitro diagnostic use. The PDF specifies a 1000 mL presentation and a two-year shelf life.
