Description
Kinyoun Color Kit is a staining kit for demonstrating acid-fast bacteria in clinical material or cultured growth.
Basic fuchsin penetrates bacterial cells in the presence of phenol. Acid-fast organisms remain red after acid-alcohol treatment, while non-acid-fast organisms take up the blue counterstain. The PDF describes Tan-Thiam-Hok and hot or cold Devulder procedures.
The kit contains one 250 mL bottle of Kinyoun solution and one 250 mL bottle of Gabett solution. Stained preparations are examined microscopically using an immersion objective.
