Description
McFarland Standard Set is a barium-sulfate turbidity standard for preparing standardised bacterial inocula used in antimicrobial-susceptibility testing.
The standard provides a defined turbidity corresponding to 0.5, 1, 2, 3 and 4 standards, allowing the density of a bacterial suspension to be visually or instrumentally adjusted.
The tube is mixed thoroughly and compared with the test suspension under suitable lighting, or used to calibrate an applicable turbidimeter before susceptibility testing.
