Description
Muco-sol is a dithiothreitol-based reagent for liquefying sputum before microbiological culture.
Dithiothreitol disrupts disulfide bonds in respiratory mucus, reducing specimen viscosity and helping release microorganisms for more representative inoculation.
A vial is diluted with sterile water, mixed with the washed sputum specimen and incubated at 37°C until liquefaction. The treated specimen is then inoculated onto suitable bacterial or fungal culture media.
