Description
Rhamnose Test is a biochemical fermentation test used to differentiate Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
The test contains a desiccated nutrient mixture, rhamnose and a pH indicator. Acid produced during rhamnose fermentation changes the medium from purple to yellow.
A pure bacterial suspension is inoculated into the test tube and incubated according to the IFU. Yellow indicates a positive fermentation reaction; unchanged purple indicates a negative result.
